Shimadzu is pleased to announce the release of the Prominence UFLC, Ultra Fast LC system. Shim-pack XR-ODS Columns for Ultra Fast analysis is also released.

Prominence UFLC is designed as one of application systems of the Prominence, using smaller diameter packing materials in the column, to reduce analysis time to 1/5 of that by conventional 5um packing material column. The Prominence UFLC is combination with new SIL-20AHT/20ACHT UFLC version with maximum applicable pressure to 35MPa, CBM-20A/20Alite and LC-20AD/20AB which have modified ROMs to achieve good retention time repeatability in high-speed gradient analysis, SPD-20A UFLC version with semi-micro temperature controlled cell incorporated, and other existing Prominence modules.

The Shim-pack XR-ODS is a packed column for use in reverse-phase chromatography. It uses 2.2 um of totally porous high purity silica gel as the base material, together with chemically bonded octadecylsilane (ODS). Generally, columns using smaller-diameter packing materials provide good separation when using shorter length columns and help to minimize the reduction in column efficiency even if the mobile phase flow rate is high. This makes them well-suited to high-speed analysis. However, since column pressure increases inversely proportional to the square of the diameter of the packing material particle, special HPLC instruments are required, which sacrifices operability.

To cope with this inconvenience, the design of the new Shim-pack XR-ODS is based on an in-depth evaluation of a variety of factors such as separation performance, durability and column pressure. Use of 2.2 um silica gel base material reduces column flow resistance, allowing high-speed analysis, even with conventional hardware HPLC systems.
